Dr. Mandel: 7 Things I’ve Learned Over 7 Years

Dr. Mandel: 7 Things I’ve Learned Over 7 Years

In honor of the 7th anniversary of the grand opening of Ketamine Clinics of Los Angeles, I’ve decided to share seven big takeaways from my experience working with our patients.

My first thought was, “Wow, seven things over seven years! That's like asking me to single out the seven most beautiful snowflakes from a snowdrift.” But when it really comes down to it, the following are some of the most important things that I’ve come to understand deeply as a result of this rewarding work.

  1. The Power of Healing

As a board-certified anesthesiologist, I had over 40 years of experience utilizing ketamine in a medical setting. But I didn’t get to experience the true power of healing until I founded Ketamine Clinics Los Angeles. I’ve watched firsthand as the lives of countless patients have been changed for the better as the result of Ketamine Infusion Therapy. Helping to transform another person's suffering into joy is the most gratifying thing a person can do.

  1. A Welcoming Environment Matters

The physical setting and the mental set at the time of treatment are the biggest determinants of successful Ketamine Infusion Therapy. At Ketamine Clinics Los Angeles, we make it a top priority to create a calm, comfortable, and safe environment for every patient. We provide cozy infusion chairs where they can feel fully relaxed, and we offer optional soft silk eye masks that can be worn during the procedure. Patients are invited to listen to relaxing music or put on noise-cancelling headphones, and our staff is trained to provide a painless experience from start to finish. These efforts to create a concierge-level experience in a spa-like boutique medical practice have, without a doubt, contributed to the high success rates we see in our clinic.

  1. More Experience = Better Outcomes

Reading and studying are important, but nothing teaches the lessons of experience like experience itself. The 10,000-hour rule does apply to practitioners of this art. Since we opened in 2014, we have helped thousands of patients and established an impressive success rate. Among our patients, 83% find relief from their suffering, which has resulted in our status as a world-renowned provider of Ketamine Infusion Therapy. It’s no wonder that patients feel confident coming to our state-of-the-art facility with a team of highly trained and experienced professionals for their care.

  1. It’s a Team Effort

Optimum administration of Ketamine Infusion Therapy is a team effort. All the members of the team are important to the outcome. From the patient care coordinator you speak to during your free phone consultation, to the administrative staff member who checks you in, to the health care professional who administers your infusion, every single person you encounter at Ketamine Clinics Los Angeles is highly trained and committed to your success.

  1. Aftercare Is Critical

Ketamine Infusion Therapy is truly transformative and lifesaving. However, it is not magic. It is a treatment, not a cure, and it is not a standalone treatment, either. Sustained benefits are best achieved by boosters at appropriate intervals accompanied by optimizing sleep, hygiene, appropriate nutrition, exercise, and close interpersonal relationships. Talk therapy helps to deepen, broaden, and prolong the benefits. The Ketamine Infusion treatment experience at KCLA includes a detailed aftercare plan outlining healthy lifestyle choices and recommended resources. We’ve found that patients often experience longer-lasting effects of Ketamine Therapy when they follow an aftercare plan.

  1. Caregivers and Receivers Need to Collaborate

Patients who are active participants in their care achieve superior results. At the same time, a caregiver needs to be fully invested in the process in order to help care receivers find relief. At Ketamine Clinics Los Angeles, we believe that the collaboration of caregiver and care receiver transforms both. We’ve been positively impacted by our patients, and vice versa. We aim to take a hands-on, personalized approach every step of the way to achieve better outcomes. At the same time, our patients who are wholly committed to the process and take steps to improve their health beyond their infusions are ones who tend to find the most relief.

  1. The Importance of an Open-Minded Approach

This treatment makes the psychic boundaries between the body, the mind, and the spirit porous and malleable. The past is immutable, but our narratives about what happened and our role in it become fluid. Those who have sought traditional treatments for mental health or pain issues in the past may be hesitant to try Ketamine Infusion Therapy at first despite its basis in scientific research. But when you come to it with an open mind, the results can be life-changing. The ability of Ketamine Infusion Therapy to open up those psychic boundaries is what makes it such an effective treatment for a variety of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD, along with migraines and chronic pain.
